Lion Dance.

Chinese New Year 2017!!

Year of the Rooster.

The Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion’s movements in a lion costume to the beat of a sounding drum. The lion dance is usually performed during the Chinese New Year and other Chinese traditional, cultural and religious festivals.

Lion dancing is thousands of years old and the traditional dance continues to this day, especially on special occasions. As well as Chinese New Year, the dance can also be seen in weddings, charity events, celebrating a new born and celebrating a new business venture such as a grand opening.

Chinese people love the colour red and yellow during festivities, and regard red as the symbol of energy, happiness and good luck. The lion dance is a symbol to ward off evil spirits and is also a channel for sending good wishes and luck to family, friends within the community. The acrobatic dance brings more happiness and blessing to those giving and receiving and is a symbol of good wishes for the New Year.
